Weeks Four & Five:
Whoops I forgot my newsletter last week! I wasn't feeling well! We have been having so much fun in class! We continued our cave explorations in a virtual tour and wrote a short story about what it would have been like to be archaeologists exploring the caves. This week we began learning what it was like to go from hunting and gathering to farming and settling into permanent homes! Today we are starting our comic books about Neolithic Nel and Neolithic Nick! What fun will we have in store for next week!? Week Three:
This week we did cave explorations. Don't worry, you didn't miss a field trip slip we did it in the classroom! Students began learning about the different types of people who study history. One of which is an archaeologist. We then went into a cave to look at the cave paintings (under a table covered in cloth). Students then used their textbooks to get more information about the pictures, what they meant and who may have painted them. We finished the week off on more of a somber note. We spoke about 9/11. I told the kids about the timeline and what life was like to live that day (I promise there were no graphic pictures or videos). We talked about the importance of remembering that day and on Sunday to take a minute to think about those people who lost their lives that fateful day 15 years ago. We are ready to dive back into some Ancient History next week! Week Two:
Week Two is done! What an incredible bunch of 6th graders I have! As parents every last one of you should be so proud! They are so polite and wonderful to work with! This week was a little bit of an odd week with the 6th graders going to outdoor school and missing two days. Not to worry though, they didn't miss anything! I simply taught the first set of days just like the second set of days. I am a little concerned about organization however. Many students are losing papers after just one night, including warm up papers! They need to hold onto those all week long in order to get all the points they can get! This week we are finishing up geography! We created our own worlds, including and not limited to foodland, freeland, and my favorite; chocolate land! YUM! Next week we will begin learning about early humans, particularly Cavemen! Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend! Week One:
Wow! What a great week! We have a wonderful 6th grade class! This week we had some great ice breaker activities such as "Whoo Are You??" and "Bamboozled Felix Edition"! We got to know our new classmates and learned a little bit about each other. We also started learning some geography. We learned all the terms for how to read a map and then made a booklet for an easy study guide. Our class is so polite and wonderful to work with that I just know it is going to be a great year! |
